Over the course of the weekend, you will complete at least 3 mini baskets any fairy would be proud to call their own. We’ll explore three simple ways to start, three different ways to finish, and get lots of practice twining. We’ll tackle challenges like repairing spokes to adding handles. For each of the plants we use, we’ll discuss foraging, storing and preparation. My hope is that you will leave on Sunday with the knowledge and confidence to weave baskets on your own. Weaving is meditative, relaxing and a rejuvenating way to enjoy a summer weekend on the farm.
DAY ONE | Saturday, June 29th | 10am - 4pm | We’ll start the day with a lively discussion and basketry show & tell. We’ll focus on great plants to forage here in the PNW, how to store them and how to prepare them to weave. Though we’ll discuss several types of baskets, we’ll be focusing on twined baskets. After lunch we’ll warm up with a little cordage making and then move into our first twined basket.
DAY TWO | Sunday, June 30th | 10am - 4pm | We’ll dive right into weaving - learning different starts, rims, materials, how to add a spoke, how to fix a broken spoke, etc. We have a full day set aside for day two but if you finish your baskets early, you are welcome to start another or call it a day.
Lunch is NOT provided - please bring a sack lunch and personal snacks. We’ll be working in either the greenhouse or barn - dress in layers. You may want to bring a chair pillow or cushion for added comfort. There is a porta potty on site and clean water for washing hands and drinking.
