Vibrant Dogwood Tray (2 time options)

  • Hamlin Park (Shoreline, WA) - Meet at the Pavilion 16006 15th Avenue Northeast Shoreline, WA, 98155 United States (map)

Come make a beautiful nod to the season and learn a new basketry type - tension trays. Using dried and fresh materials we will create a one-of-kind creation that leverages the virtues of the plants involved. We’ll make a hoop with long slender flexible semi-dry willow rods, create a frame work with dried willow ribs, weave with soft fresh stems of red twig dogwood, yellow dogwood and vitellina willow, and finish off the handles (optional) with english ivy. If you finish quickly, you’ll have time to wander through Hamlin park to find natural decorations you can add to your tray - a neat pine cone, a bit of fallen lichen (never harvest from trees), or a crow feather…who knows what will speak to you.

The workshop will be held rain or shine with an option to seek cover in the picnic shelter or deep under the cedar and fir canopy. Dress warm - hat and gloves. This project does not require fine weaving skills and can be completed with thin-ish gloves on. I’ll bring my propane fire pit to warm us up (personal propane devises are approved at the park). And feel free to bring a warm beverage.

If I need to cancel the class, I will provide a full refund and try my best to reschedule. I never want to cancel but life happens.
