Field & Forest Crafts offers beginner and intermediate basket weaving and wild crafting workshops throughout the Seattle area and Pacific Northwest, including Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland, Woodinville, Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Everett, Carnation and beyond.

I teach people how to work with locally and sustainably gathered plants and natural materials, but really, it’s about more than learning to make a basket. It’s about learning to see plants differently, developing a relationship with the materials in your hands, and discovering the landscapes and seasons that provide them.

From a two-hour workshop making simple natural jewelry to a two-day fairy basket class, I like to keep things interesting, hands-on and, most importantly, local. We might spend an afternoon getting to know daylily, cattail or bulrush, learning the ins and outs of willow, or discovering what morning glory and dogwood can become when you look at them a little differently.

The workshops are intentionally small and intimate, which means you get plenty of hands-on guidance and time to learn. They’re also connected to the seasons and to what I’m able to hand harvest and prepare, so what’s on the calendar is always changing.

Whether you’re completely new to basket making or ready to build on skills you already have, there’s something wonderful about sitting around a table with other curious people, working with plants and learning what they can do.
