This workshop is full. However, if all goes well with this trial, I hope to host it regularly.
Who found a new wonderful place to harvest bulrush? This gal! Which means I can start hosting more bulrush focused workshops and I’m thrilled.
So I’m adding a bulrush trivet trial. What is a “trial” workshop? Well, this is my chance to explore adding a new workshop, learn what challenges might arise (I expect very few!), test workshop duration, and get your feedback. It also means that you get try out something new at a reduced price for being willing to roll with a little uncertainty.
Bulrush, schoenoplectus sp., is one of my absolute favorite plants to weave. It’s strong, flexible and versatile. Bulrush is a member of the sedge family but unlike most sedges “with edges” it is round and smooth. In our area bulrush is found in slow moving fresh water - lakes and ponds are ideal. A little side note, in the U.K. cattails are called bulrush…don’t be confused. :)
WORKSHOP DETAILS
This workshop will be a wonderful way to get to know bulrush as a weaving material and to create a practical and useful woven trivet in just a short time. We’ll do a plaited start and then a simple border to tie it all together.
IF WE HAVE TIME…you can do a 2nd trivet or a coaster. :) I hope we do!
