Birch Bark Stars (Limited Supply!)

  • Field and Forest Classroom 12535 15th Avenue Northeast Seattle, WA, 98125 United States (map)

Whether you call these little folded beauties - German Stars (Froebel Stars), Advent Stars, Danish Stars, Nordic Stars, Polish Stars, Pennsylvania Stars, Christmas Stars, or Swedish stars…they are just plan AMAZING!

With 2 strips of thin Birch bark and a whole lot of folding, you can make this incredible tree bark origami!

We will start by working with paper to get the hang of it and then move on to Birch bark. Each student will make one paper and two birch bark stars in class. You will also take home 2 BONUS sets of birch bark to practice at home. *Add a string, beads, and bells and now we are really having fun!

While weaving, I’m happy to share about my harvesting adventures in Minnesota! Mosquitos and all. Sadly our native Birch and introduced Paper Birches don’t produce the same quality bark as Paper Birch in its native environments.

Workshop maximum: 8 students (minimum 4)

Minimum Age: 10 and must be accompanied by a paying adult - please let me know if you are registering with a minor.
