Bulrush and Wetland Plants Shoulder Bag in Bellingham

  • Rome Grange 2821 Mount Baker Highway Bellingham, WA, 98226 United States (map)

Let’s make an over-the-shoulder pouch out of wetland friends - bulrush, cattail, yellow flag iris, and willow. Bulrush will be our foundation and is an incredibly sturdy plant fiber that retains flexibility once woven. It’s my favorite for pouches and hats. All local materials harvested by hand (mine) and sustainably.

We’ll weave around a wooden form and you can choose to make a vertical or horizontal pouch - finished size approx 5.5 inches x 7 inches x 2 inches - perfect for your cellphone, wallet, etc. You will then add either a bulrush or cattail cordage strap. *If working with larger fiber cordage is difficult for your hands, I have natural alternatives.

No experience needed though it will be a challenging project for a brand new weaver. Minimum age: 16

Workshop maximum: 8 students

Workshop will be held over lunch - please plan to bring a sack lunch or snacks to stay onsite.

Class registration is NON-REFUNDABLE. However, if you want to sell or give your spot to a friend, I’m happy to welcome someone else in your place. Due to the nature of the projects (materials/soaking, etc) and the small class sizes, I’m unable to support refunds or credits.

*Special thanks to Cindi Landreth for pulling this all together and being my host. :)
