Paleontologists have found plant-based cordage and netting dating as far back as the Paleolithic era (aka the Stone Age).
Come learn the basics of making cordage and turning it into a flexible, expandable, knotless netting bag or wrapped vessel. We’ll work primarily with natural hemp twine for our cordage due to availability, strength, and how much more quickly it can be turned into cordage. We will sample yellow flag iris and crocosmia for cordage in the workshop and discuss other locally forgeable alternatives.
This is a skills workshop and we will not complete our knotless bags as it will take several additional hours to make a bag of any significant size. However, each student will be provided a spool of hemp twine (100 meters) for use in class and to take home to continue their bag(s).
You are welcome to bring a water bottle, jar, vase, vessel, or rock to wrap - the technique can be used with or without a form to wrap.
Class size max: 8 students (5 student minimum)
Age minimum: 14
Class registration is NON-REFUNDABLE. However, if you want to sell or give your spot to a friend, I’m happy to welcome someone else in your place. Due to the nature of the projects (materials/soaking, etc) and the small class sizes, I’m unable to support refunds or credits.
