Every July I venture forth in my stylish hip waders to gather one of my “heart” plants - bulrush And this past July offered an abundant harvest!.
Bulrush or Schoenoplectus acutus, is one of my absolute favorite plants to weave. It’s strong, flexible and versatile. Bulrush is a member of the sedge family but unlike most sedges “with edges” it is round and smooth and most would refer to it as a “rush”. In our area bulrush is found in slow moving fresh water - lakes and ponds are ideal. A little side note, in the U.K. cattails are called bulrush…don’t be confused. :)

This workshop will be a wonderful way to get to know bulrush as a weaving material and to create a practical and study little woven basket. We’ll do a plaited start and then a simple border to tie it all together.
