Lavender Wands @ Sky Nursery

  • Sky Nursery 18528 Aurora Avenue North Shoreline, Washington, 98133 United States (map)

JULY is the season of lavender! And lavender wands, or fuseaux de lavande, are a great way to preserve their glorious fragrance. These woven wands can be traced back to the 18th century in the Provence region of France. With the rise of the perfume trade, lavender moved from a medicinal herb to a sought after essential oil. Wands and sachets serve to not only scent your space, they offer aromatherapeutic benefits and discourage insects & moths from exploring your clothes.

You will often see lavender wands made with brightly colored satin ribbon. These days, satin is no longer made of silk but of polyester/plastic. To keep our lavender wands Earth-kind and all natural, we will be using hand-dyed 100% cotton ribbon. Though you can still find silk satin ribbon…it’s very pricey.

Our lavender will be at the peak of it’s scent and locally grown. Once the blooms are enclosed they are safe to toss in a linen drawer, your car, or to add fragrance to any space. The scent can last for years and easily refreshed with a drop of essential oil. But once you know how, you make new ones every year. :) *The golden colored sample in the pictures above was created using dandelion stems instead of ribbon…neat!
