SOLD OUT - Willow Bark Harvest and Prep @ 21 Acres in Woodinville

  • 21 Acres 13701 Northeast 171st Street Woodinville, WA, 98072 United States (map)

Come play with willow bark!

Willow is an incredible plant offering medicine in its bark (used by humans for more than 3500 years!), habitat for birds in its swaying branches, stability for river and stream banks with its dense roots and so much more.

Willow bark can only be harvested for a few months in the spring and early summer but if dried and storied properly can last for years. For weaving, willow bark can be used to make baskets, hats, jewelry, art, and more.

Through a wonderful partnership with 21 Acres, I’m able to invite you out on the farm to harvest and peel native willow bark. Each student will harvest at least TWO fresh willow rods (between 3-4ft long) to peel and dry. Then we will transition to working with rehydrated bark to practice cutting down to size for weaving.

You will take home at least 10 ft of lovely willow bark. This is enough willow to make several small soft fiber twined baskets (around a vase/bottle), a bracelet, earrings, etc. We will discuss bark appropriate projects, and techniques but we will NOT be weaving during this workshop.

This is a hands-on harvesting, preparing and knowledge workshop. There will be no woven project. We will also be out in the elements - RAIN OR SHINE!

Minimum age: 14 with accompanying paid adult

Class size maximum: 8 students | Class size minimum: 6 students

Class registration is NON-REFUNDABLE. However, if you want to sell or give your spot to a friend, I’m happy to welcome someone else in your place. Due to the nature of the projects (materials/soaking, etc) and the small class sizes, I’m unable to support refunds or credits. Class held RAIN OR SHINE.
