Bulrush or Schoenoplectus acutus, is one of my absolute favorite plants to weave. It’s strong, flexible and versatile. Bulrush is a member of the sedge family but unlike most sedges “with edges” it is round and smooth. In our area bulrush is found in slow moving fresh water - lakes and ponds are ideal. A little side note, in the U.K. cattails are called bulrush…don’t be confused. :)
WORKSHOP DETAILS
This workshop will be a wonderful way to get to know bulrush as a weaving material and to create a practical and useful woven trivet in just a short time. We’ll do a plaited start and then a simple border to tie it all together.
