Intro to Cordage with Soft Fibers @ Cultus Bay Gardens on Whidbey Island

  • Cultus Bay Gardens 7568 Cultus Bay Road Clinton, WA, 98236 United States (map)

One of the best ways to get to know the weave-ability of a plant is by trying to make cordage with it. So let’s make some cordage at the lovely Cultus Bay Gardens on Whidbey Island!

What the heck is cordage? Really it’s just rope or twine. And in this case hand woven from local plants…even better!

Together we will explore different locally available (some seasonal) plants and let our hands tell us more about them. Don’t know how to make cordage, no problem…we’ll learn together. And you’ll get a great start on your very own cordage collection. (see picture)

What we’ll play with…

  • Daylily

  • Crocosmia

  • Iris

  • Dandelion

  • Daffodil

  • Juncus

  • Cattail

  • and more…

Our time together will offer lots of show and tell of other fun ways to use more cordage in your life. Trust me you’re going to want to use it everywhere - it’s addictive, meditative, and just plan fun to make.
