Willow Hurdle

  • Sky Nursery 18528 Aurora Avenue North Shoreline, WA, 98133 United States (map)

Weave a willow hurdle to edge your garden.

Your hurdle will be approximately 15in H x 34in W and woven from vibrant fresh willow.

Hurdles, woven from flexible willow or hazel branches, have ancient roots, used since Neolithic times (4000 BCE+) in Europe for trackways, buildings (wattle & daub), and especially as essential, portable livestock pens (sheepfolds) in the Middle Ages, serving rural life and land management before modern metal fences. They have evolved from practical farming tools to rustic garden feature.

Teacher: Sabina Ahmed - willow weaver and nature crafter from Olympia, WA
