In this short workshop we will weave a trivet/tray/wall art. We will make a willow hoop and then use willow sticks to weave the center. This project leverages tension weaving - a quick way to create a flat tray that can be used for drying and carrying food, protecting a surface from heat, or as the start of some styles of baskets. Bonus skill - learning to make willow wreath hoops! The finished project will be about 10 “ diameter.

Teacher: Shannon Robertson of Whatcom Willow Works
Shannon has been making willow baskets since 2010 and teaching on and off since 2013. She’s learned from a variety of teacher to learn the craft. She harvests all the material she weaves with locally. Shannon loves willow for its beauty and functionality. It lends itself to being very sturdy. She is earnest to continue studying weaving of many types - there is so much to learn. Honoring this ancient craft by making baskets and teaching others gives her great fulfillment. She has a vision for more people to make baskets as well as grow and forage for their own materials.
Workshop registration is NON-REFUNDABLE. However, if you want to sell or give your spot to a friend, we’re happy to welcome someone else in your place.
