MEET KATIE: Katie McFarland loves clothes with a past and the little transformation that happens when needle, thread, and imagination meet. Her mending is practical, playful, and happily imperfect. Bring a well-loved garment, and she’ll help you give it a new story.
Mending is one small part of a more circular way of living: keeping textiles in use, valuing the fibers and resources that went into making them, and sending less to the waste stream.
Each stitch is a quiet act of care, for the cloth in our hands and for the living world that sustains us.
In this welcoming class, you’ll learn two useful stitches, the running stitch and the blanket stitch. With these two new tools in hand, Katie will help you ensure your garment has a second life. No longer hidden away but proudly showing its story with a visible mend. Let the patch become part of the garment’s story.
Please bring a garment or other textile you’d like to mend. If you have a particular fabric or fabrics you love and want to use to make your repair/patch bring those along too. Each student will receive a bespoke mending kit to keep. 100% natural fiber thread for stitching and additional patching cloth will be provided.
No sewing experience is needed. Just bring your curiosity and a willingness to let your hands learn.
Minimum age: 12 with accompanying paid adult.
Class registration is NON-REFUNDABLE. However, if you want to sell or give your spot to a friend, we’re happy to welcome someone else in your place.
